Project Arts Centre
Off Site
Visual Arts Director - 1998 - 2001
During the redevelopment of the arts centre building at 39 East Essex Street, Dublin, Project Arts Centre commissioned a programme of projects described as Off Site and produced at various other locations and in various media. Ten projects were produced around Dublin and one in Galway. Artists included, work-seth/tallentire, Ronan McCrea, Daniel Jewesbury, Paddy Jolley, Sandra Johnston, Pete Smithson, Tina O'Connell, Tony Patrickson, Fergus Kelly, and Dorothy Cross. After June 2000, the exhibitions of new work took place in the new building and purpose built gallery. The inaugural exhibition in the new building was Somewhere Near Vada, guest curated by artist Jaki Irvine, and placed throughout the building prior to the final fit-out and staff moving into the offices. The final event at the old building was an artwork by Maurice O'Connell that involved artists, performers and musicians who wanted to do something to mark the closure, ending in a staged 'son et lumiere' fire.
