Somewhere Near Vada
Curated by Jaki Irvine
Commissioned to open the new Project Art Centre building, which was constructed on the site of the old 'adapted' printing works that had been in use by the arts centre between 1974 and 1998. Somewhere Near Vada included works by James Coleman, Adam Chodzko, Anneke de Boer, Zoe Walker, Tacita Dean, Bas Jan Ader, Fishli & Weiss, Marcel Boodthaers, and Gary Hill. In addition, there were screenings of the documentary 'Not for Sale' by Laura Cottingham. The exhibition was installed throughout the building. The exhibition used the offices, backstage and social spaces as well as the gallery and performance spaces before these were finally fitted out and furnished. This allowed the public to discover the building and have access to the variety of new spaces in advance of them becoming more defined through future use. Catalogue essays by Jaki Irvine and Shirley MacWilliam.
